What is the domestic Fundi programme?
It is an online destination specialist course aimed at equipping the domestic tourism trade with the knowledge and skill to better sell South Africa to the people of South Africa- thereby creating a culture of travel within SA

How do I register for the domestic Fundi course?
Log on to www.safundi.net/domestic and click on the Register link.

What is the cost of the course?
The Fundi course is free to all Travel Agents and Tour Operators in South Africa

What qualification/s do I need to have in order to do the course?
You do not need any qualification to register for the course, however you must be employed as a Travel Agent or Tour Operator in the Travel & Tourism industry

Are there any age restrictions?
No


I am a Tourism Student/Tourist Guide/Hotel Receptionist and I would like to register for the course
Unfortunately you cannot. The course is currently available only to Travel Agents and Tour Operators but it will be made available to a wider audience in due course.

How long is the course?
You have three months in which to complete the course. If you are unable to and can prove that it is due to unforeseen circumstances, for e.g. due to illness, you will be allowed an extension depending on the circumstances.

I am in small Travel Agent in a rural area and do not have access to the internet. How can I participate in this course?
Unfortunately the course can only be done online on the Fundi website. Why don't you go to your nearest internet café in town?

Is the course internationally recognized?
No, it is not. The course is a domestic specialist course on South Africa developed for South African trade to be better able to sell local products and services

Is there an advanced Fundi course?
No, but the course will be continuously updated.

Is there a practical aspect to the course, like educationals?
There is no formal practical aspect to the course but top performers are eligible for educationals if certain criteria are met.

What are the criteria to be eligible for consideration as a top performer?
Pass all modules at first attempt
Achieve a 100% pass rate in all modules
Complete the course within shortest possible period within the stipulated three month period

Is the course accredited and if so by whom?
Not yet, however we have applied for accreditation from THETA.

Can I re-register for the course if I do not pass or finish the course after three months?
Yes, you can re-register but it is advisable to do the course within the stipulated three months as you will be eligible to win a lot of fabulous prizes.

At the end of each module, will the system immediately give me my results?
Yes

Will I be able to do the next module even if I did not finish or pass the previous module?
No, you cannot. You have to get an 80% pass mark for each module before you can move onto the next module

Will I be able to pick up where I left off after logging out?
Yes. The system will take you to exactly where you left off.

How do I complete the assessments?
The assessments are multiple-choice and True/False questions that must be completed on the Fundi website at the end of each module. Each assessment consists of ten questions; you need to obtain 80% to pass. You can do the online assessments as many times as you need to, in order to attain 80%.

Is there any form of self-study?
Yes, worksheets can be found at the end of each module, the answers can be found at the end of each worksheet.

Is there a support system in place?
Yes, our 24 hour call centre will assist you with any difficulties that you may encounter

How will I be kept informed of changes and developments?
Course participants will receive a monthly Fundi newsletter and information will also be available on the website.

What happens once I qualify?
We will send you a Fundi certificate which you can display in your office certifying that you are a bona fide Fundi. We will also send you a decal to put in your window, advertising that a South African Expert is located at your agency/tour operator and you will be placed in our lead referral system on the SA Tourism website.

How will I get my certificate and window decal?
They will be posted to you within two weeks of completion of the course

How does the lead referral system work?
Once you qualified as a Fundi, we will create a profile of you and your organisation on the Fundi website. Prospective travellers visiting the South African Tourism website will be referred to the listing of Fundis' where they can search for an expert.

Will I be able to get a job once I have my Fundi accreditation?
You must be employed by a Travel Agent or Tour Operator in order to qualify for registration

Are there any incentives linked to the Domestic Fundi Programme?
Yes very much so... we want to encourage all participants to achieve full certification as quickly as possible.
Participants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the Grand Prize draw:

  1. Pass all modules at first attempt
  2. Achieve a 100% pass rate in all modules
  3. Complete the course within shortest possible period within the stipulated three month period
